Works from the Gallery’s permanent collection that bring together diverse perspectives on the ocean that surrounds us.
The Pacific Ocean occupies nearly one-third of the Earth's surface. To its Polynesian inhabitants it is Te Moananui a Kiwa - the Great Ocean of Kiwa. Polynesia encompasses a triangle within this ocean extending from Hawaii in the North to Rapanui (Easter Island) in the East and Aotearoa / New Zealand in the South. Pacific cultures tells stories of an ancestor named Kiwa, a great ocean explorer. This exhibition of works from the Gallery’s permanent collection brings together diverse perspectives on the ocean that surrounds us.
