Te Ara o Hine Rēhia is a homage to kapa haka in Te Tauihu o Te Waka-a-Māui (the top of the South Island). We follow four different kapa haka from Te Tauihu over six years.

Te Ara o Hine Rēhia will take you on a journey through the different items of a bracket that make up a kapa haka performance. You will experience the serenity of the waiata tira and the beauty of the poi. You will witness the powerful impact of the haka, the whakaeke and the whakawātea. You will see how tradition and intergenerational knowledge are embedded in the mōteatea, and the playfulness of the waiata-ā-ringa.

Kapa haka is role-modelling at its best. Mātua showing their tamariki that their culture is beautiful, powerful and important. Tamariki showing their mātua that their years of effort for language and cultural revitalisation are worth it. Kaumātua showing their mokopuna that their legacy is one that has been handed down through generations. Mokopuna showing their kaumātua that despite the experience of colonisation, their language and their culture will not perish.
