About the exhibition
In the summer of 2021 Tasman-based printmaker Kathy Reilly travelled to the Subantarctic Islands on a research expedition. For thirteen days she trained her artist’s eye on these dramatic, isolated environs scattered south-east of the mainland in the vast Southern Ocean. The outcome of her voyage can be seen in this exhibition. The work ranges from detailed etchings and cyanotypes of endemic plant species, to sculptural installations and studies of the Toroa Royal Southern Albatross in both prints and a video work. Kathy’s work captures the significance of a singular ecosystem – inestimable and fragile.
