The Collection

Collection005_long.jpgThe acquisition and care of works of art is central to a public art gallery's function.  Collections are held in our care for the benefit of the Marlborough community.

The Gallery acquires works of art through gift, bequest, and transfer. Acquisitions are made in accordance with criteria set out in our acquisition policy and collection management plan.

We also actively collect for our library collection, which contains fine art publications, magazines, exhibition catalogues and media clippings.

Collections tell layers of stories about donors and collectors.  Many of the donors of works to this collection have a history of supporting the Millennium Art Gallery.  Several of the works are by artists who have exhibited at the Gallery.
