About Marlborough's Public Art Gallery
|
The Millennium Art Gallery is the public art gallery for the Marlborough region, located in the centre of Blenheim. Exhibitions feature New Zealand and overseas artists and have included the work of significant artists such as Ralph Hotere, Bill Culbert and Frances Hodgkins in both nationally touring and locally generated exhibitions. Emphasis is also placed on high quality community-focused exhibitions that are developed in conjunction with other local events and organizations, and display the work of Marlborough artists, iwi and school children. Art displayed at the Blenheim gallery ranges from paintings, photography and sculpture to a variety of forms of applied arts and craft. An average of 23 exhibitions are presented per year. These are accompanied by public programmes such as artist and curator talks and educational workshops. The Art Gallery is also a popular venue for arts sector and business events such as book launches and wine industry celebrations. At the Gallery you will see work from leading local, national and international artists in a fantastic range of regularly changing art exhibitions, programmes and events. Opened in December 1999 the Gallery operates as a not for profit organisation, governed by a Charitable Trust and professionally managed. The operation is supported by an extensive network of volunteers. The Art Gallery is funded by a Marlborough District Council grant, fundraising and sponsorship as well as sales of local and New Zealand made art work, jewellery and books from the gallery shop. We are proud to receive practical and conceptual support from our patron, Michael Seresin, a world-renowned New Zealand-born cinematographer based in Marlborough. |
